In late September of 2004 I moved from
San Juan Capistrano, California
to Manitou Springs, Colorado.
My new studio
is almost a 1000 sq ft. full glass facility. It contains
8 computerized glass kilns,
glass
cutting
stations,
a design workstation
and space for packing and shipping. I have my studio set
up so I may do multiple firings while at the same time I
can
continue to work on filling the remaining kilns with additional
work. This allows me to produce enough glassware to fill
most
customers orders in a timely fashion. Often I can ship from
inventory on hand, while large orders are usually available
within 4-6 weeks.
BIG NEWS!!!
In the Spring of 2004 I started work on
a whole new line of fused glass. It is very diferent from
my
Gourmet
Glassware© but I am very excited about this new direction.
I will always make my food themed pieces, as this was and
is a passion
but I hope you will visit my new web site to view my Copper
Collection.

About the Process
Thank you for your interest in DuRee' Design's Gourmet Glassware©.
Each piece is designed, hand-crafted, signed and dated by
the artist, Andra DuRee' Martin. All of the designs are meant
to be used, are dishwasher safe and are non-leaded. I sell
these colorful plates with the intention of usage. They are
more durable than the dishes you use day to day and are a
lot more fun!
The almost 20 hour process involves using non-leaded powdered
glass colors which are sandwiched between two pieces of glass.
The designs are not painted on, but hand sprinkled on a piece
of clear glass layer after layer to achieve the pattern. Another
piece of glass is then placed on top. The work is then baked
(fused) in a kiln until the glass melts, forming one solid
piece with the design sandwiched in the middle! After cooling,
the fused glass design is placed over a mold and reheated
until it assumes the final shape.
As all of DuRee's items are hand-made, there are subtle and
delightful differences that make no two pieces exactly alike.
The bubbles that appear are a part of the process, often enhancing
the designs and in no way sacrifice the durability of any
plate.
