In late September of 2004 my husband Floyd and I moved from
San Juan Capistrano, California
to Manitou Springs, Colorado. It was time for a change after 15 years of glass making and being on the road doing endless shows.
My new studio
is almost a 1000 sq ft. full glass facility. It contains
8 computerized glass kilns,
glass
cutting
stations,
a design workstation
and space for packing and shipping.
I have stepped back and do my firings and design work on a much more limitd basis. I keep some inventory but most larger orders will need to be made.
Turnaround time is only about 4-6 weeks
In the Spring of 2004 I started work on
a whole new line of fused glass and Silver Jewelry. It is very diferent from
my
Gourmet
Glassware© but I am very excited about this new direction.
I will always make my food themed pieces, as this was and
is my passion
but I hope you will look at some of my new work. Just Clck the Copperworks or Jewelry buttons on my home page. Every piece is one of a kind and I will take custom orders just for you.
Place your
mouse anywhere in the image a drag it around for a virtual
tour of the studio!
Use the Shift Key to zoom in, the Control (Ctrl) to zoom
out. Have Fun.

You will need the most recent version of QuickTime
to view my VR movie. Click on the link above.
About the Process
Thank you for your interest in DuRee' Design's Gourmet Glassware©.
Each piece is designed, hand-crafted, signed and dated by
the artist, Andra DuRee' Martin. All of the designs are meant
to be used, are dishwasher safe and are non-leaded. I sell
these colorful plates with the intention of usage. They are
more durable than the dishes you use day to day and are a
lot more fun!
The almost 20 hour process involves using non-leaded powdered
glass colors which are sandwiched between two pieces of glass.
The designs are not painted on, but hand sprinkled on a piece
of clear glass layer after layer to achieve the pattern. Another
piece of glass is then placed on top. The work is then baked
(fused) in a kiln until the glass melts, forming one solid
piece with the design sandwiched in the middle! After cooling,
the fused glass design is placed over a mold and reheated
until it assumes the final shape.
As all of DuRee's items are hand-made, there are subtle and
delightful differences that make no two pieces exactly alike.
The bubbles that appear are a part of the process, often enhancing
the designs and in no way sacrifice the durability of any
plate.
